General: Created to celebrate the franchise's 15 years and 27 million copies on the market, this "collection release" contains both Hyper Street Fighter II and a PlayStation 2 port of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, no doubt the finest 2D fighting game to date, which previously appeared in arcades and on the Sega Dreamcast console.
Just when you thought they put an end to the SF2 series, Capcom has decided to re-ivent itself yet again, and basically release the Street Fighter 2 series as a new game: ..."Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition"... I thought days of SF2 re-releases were over... This time, Capcom tags their world renowned gameplay along with some nice bonus features.
In this FINAL rendition of SF2, you are able to play as the all of the different versions of the characters from each game in the SF2 series. What that basically means, is that you can play as Chun Li from Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo against Ryu from the original Street Fighter 2... (You can even check out the different character selection screen ART of each of the characters)... Bad ass... This allows for some fun flashbacks, and the ability to experience the absolute best that the SF2 series has to offer.
And as the bulk of the collection, Capcom's latest installment to Street Fighter, SF3: Third Strike, also makes it's way onto the disk. Capcom crammed everything from this arcade classic into the PS2 port, without loosing any animation, or smudging any of the 2D goodness (too badly). Capcom did a nice job on the default color filtering. While the filter lessens the color intensity, it nicely smooths out some of the jagged edges within the 2D goodness. I'd say the PS2 version looks even better than the Dreamcast version with the filter on. Funny though how the intro still maintains some noticibly jagged edges within those beautiful sketches. Ahh well... I'm nitpicking. Another interesting feature is the Original soundtrack made specifically for this game (that can be turned on). The "Arrange" soundtrack is on by default, and I actually prefer it rather than the "Original."
Along with the two games, the disk will include a full version of Street Fighter: The Animated Movie... A bad ass anime not ever to be forgotten. This Capcom release is no doubt an entertaining collection that any Street Fighter veteran, with a PS2, should own. Good job on analyzing that business idea Capcom... But where the hell is Street Fighter 4? Ha Ha.

Scary. Does Capcom really come to TFG? Udon Comics did... Who knows. Like
Capcom says... "True Fighting is Art"... And as a "true fighting
game enthusiast," there was no question if I'd pick up this re-release
by Capcom... C'mon we all love Street Fighter. While the intro /
presentation isn't really a "presentation," if you know what I mean, I
can still respect Capcom for their motivation to put something out like
this. Two great games, plus a classic fighting game themed movie, for about
30 bucks? Not too bad... It's good stuff... Buy it!
